HOW TO BE
How To Be, a collection of works depicting America’s obsession with self-help literature in the form of abstract, textile-inspired vessels, weavings and wall hangings. Using Jess McHugh’s 2021 book Americanon: An Unexpected U.S. History in Thirteen Bestselling Books as a source of inspiration, Battani’s work invites viewers to engage with the pages of these classics and reflect on the way these writings have influenced how we, as Americans, have historically defined success, desirability and happiness.
