Marjorie Child Husted: A leading home economist of the early twentieth century is better known as the brain and voice behind General Mill’s beloved Betty Crocker. Initially offering cooking and home management advice to millions as “Betty” on the company’s radio show, Marjorie researched and edited the famous Betty Crocker’s Picture Cookbook, commonly known as Big Red. In one year, sales of Big Red were surpassed only by sales of the Bible.Marjorie received the1949 Advertising Woman of the Year from the Advertising Federation of America.
Fun Fact: In 1945, Fortune magazine declared Betty Crocker the second-most popular woman in America, behind Eleanor Roosevelt.
